胆·力·与功夫
Determination, Strength & Skills
一膽二力三功夫。鼎足而居,缺一不可。
1. Guts 2. Strength & 3. Kung Fu is a saying frequently used to put down the importance of Kung Fu (or combat skills within the context). Rather than considering it a ranking of the 3 principal attributes of a seasoned practitioner, students of martial arts would best regard the saying as a mere enumeration of these attributes; liken them to legs of a 3-legged East Asian “Ding” – a incense holder that requires all three supports to be equally developed.
拳不过三
In Three Moves
Unduly smug Wing Chun practitioners might sell themselves on the idea that the Wing Chun system is so superior that enemies are destroyed in less than 3 moves. This misused notion laid waste the intended advise – that one’s training would best be conducted assuming that an aggressor will attempt to viciously and decisively overpower one within a few moves.
追身莫追手
Keeping Focus
Chase the body and not the hands. This is just one of many sayings in the Wing Chun tradition (when weapons are not involved). This site will strive to share sayings, advices and interpretations of the arts while screening information in favor of those which link the physiological and psychological (and hence philosophical) aspects of the martial arts.
